Interoperability

HL7® FHIR® and interoperability training

Practical courses on the HL7® FHIR® standard for engineers building integrations, the informaticists who map clinical data, and the product, policy and leadership teams who need to know what FHIR® makes possible. All free with an account.

A suggested path

  1. 1

Start with the REST API: create, read, update and delete resources against a public test server.

This series will cover the FHIR® CRUD Operations.

  2. 2

Then query: search parameters, comparators, chaining, and what servers send back.

This tutorial walks through performing basic HL7® FHIR® Searches.

  3. 3

Codes are where integrations get hard: code systems, value sets and terminology services.

A series of tutorial videos about using terminologies in HL7® FHIR®. This is meant as a crash course for individuals new to terminologies and want to get a bit deeper into the weeds.

  4. 4

Author your own profiles and Implementation Guides with FHIR® Shorthand and SUSHI.

An introductory course that covers the essentials of FHIR® Shorthand (FSH) and SUSHI for building FHIR® Implementation Guides (IGs).

  5. 5

See a real Implementation Guide in use, taught by the lead author of its HL7® FHIR® IG.

An introductory course on the emerging SMART Scheduling Links standard for patient scheduling.

  6. 6

Preparing for certification? Follow a full week of study sessions.

Seven days of recorded livestreams from my study sessions before the HL7® FHIR® R4 Proficiency Exam and FHIR® Foundation Exam pilot in April 2024.
