FHIR® Shorthand (FSH)

Free

An introductory course that covers the essentials of FHIR® Shorthand (FSH) and SUSHI for building FHIR® Implementation Guides (IGs).

About this course

Who it's for

Clinicians, informaticists and developers who need to write or maintain an HL7® FHIR® Implementation Guide (IG) and would rather author it in FHIR® Shorthand (FSH) than hand-edit JSON or XML.

What you'll learn

  • What FSH is, and how it describes FHIR® profiles, extensions and examples as plain text
  • Constraining a resource with cardinality rules
  • Creating example instances that conform to your profiles
  • Working with terminology in FSH: code systems, value sets and bindings
  • Writing the narrative pages of an IG
  • Compiling FSH with SUSHI and building the guide with the IG Publisher
  • Publishing the finished IG on GitHub Pages

Short on time? Chapter 4 is a single quick-start video that walks through the whole workflow.

Prerequisites

A working knowledge of FHIR® resources helps. No prior FSH experience is needed.
